Welcome to my review of the Orvis Ultralight Vest.
Here is everything you need to know about it and whether it is worth it for you to buy. Little heads, I liked this vest a lot.
Let’s dive into it!
Orvis Ultralight Vest Review
Positives:
- Lightweight
- Dries quickly
- Cool and comfortable
- Slim fit
- Quality material
Negatives:
- There are other vests that fit more gear
- Get the size up, these run a bit small
The Orvis Ultralight vest is exactly what the name sounds like, lightweight. It only weighs 11.89 ounces yet has 11 pockets for gear.
Price compared to other vests
Yes we’re looking at a fly fishing vest that break the hundred dollar mark, but most higher quality vests do. This one is no different in that aspect.
What this vest will do is separate itself from lower quality vests that you might find drop shipped on amazon. The quality here is just a whole lot better than it would be in a vest that you bought for $30 (that also includes every feature under the sun.)
There is a reason that people like to invest money into better gear, simply because it’s going to last longer and perform better during the time that it’s being used.
Lightweight
You can read it in the name…
Orvis Ultralight Vest.
The design of it keeps the weight down. It’s breathable and also features high quality fabrics. Unlike a cheap vest, you can expect that this one will last a long time.
That being said, because it’s so lightweight, it doesn’t have a ton of storage for your fly fishing gear.
You can certainly fit a couple fly boxes and a sandwich in it but not a couple days worth of supplies like the Fishpond Wasatch Vest might be able to do.
“This is your day trip kind of fly fishing vest”
Storage
While it doesn’t store a ton of gear, it does have 11 pockets.
4 external on the front, 1 on the back and 6 internal.
It also has two fly patches on the chest.
Comfort
The Ultralight vest might be the most comfortable fly fishing vest I’ve tried on, ever. That’s a bold statement to make, but it’s true.
Along with the material it’s made of, it features a breathable ventilation system that allows air to circulate a lot better than most vests.
This keeps the body temperature cool during the warm summer months and also helps dry the vest quickly if you happen to fall in the water.
Looks
In my opinion this is one of the better looking vests you can get right now. It’s a slim fit with a modern look.
It also might just be me but I do like the grey with a touch of yellow.
Overall it isn’t anything flashy, but it’s clean and gets the job done.
The Orvis Ultralight vest is exactly what the name sounds like, lightweight. It only weighs 11.89 ounces yet has 11 pockets for gear.

Conclusion
Overall the Orvis Ultralight Vest is worth it. Reasonable price, quality material and comfortable. It does have the downfalls of storage capacity and it does run a little bit small though.
